Spring News

The Affirming Youth Foundation is pressing on full steam ahead this spring, riding high on several key accomplishments that fit directly within our core mission of helping children cope with traumatic experiences.

The success comes on the heels of the one year anniversary that the organization has occupied its current office space where families in need receive therapeutic support and other services.

Project SEEDS

One of the projects currently underway is Project SEEDS at Liberty City Elementary School, a program that instills students with statistically-proven guidance on dealing with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), something that has greatly affected the south Florida community… even more than a year after the Parkland school shooting.

Affirming YOUth is taking the lead by infusing Social and Emotional lessons into our instructional material. We are molding our program into a more culturally-based curriculum with the help of some crucial community partnerships like FIU Education Effect and funding support from The Miami Foundation, the William R. Kenan, Jr., Charitable Trust, and others.

Affirming YOUth is now part of a Community-Based Learning Collaborative for agencies who come into contact with children who have been exposed to trauma.

Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. Research shows that TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and complex trauma experiences.

Statistics show that without Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, many people will fall victim to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, anxiety or worse.

The Affirming Youth Foundation is continuing with its key core mission of addressing these critical needs and the organization is on track to experience a great 2019.
